The groundwater mainly flows in the fractured and karstified Liassic carbonate strata of the Moroccan Middle Atlas, southwest of Taza. In April 2026, 40 groundwater samples were collected from 19 wells and 21 springs. The groundwater quality assessment for drinking purposes (WQI) and irrigation (IWQI and Wilcox diagram) was integrated with the physicochemical analyzes, hydrochemical facies characterization by using the Piper diagram, Pearson correlation analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). The total dissolved solids (TDS) varied from 45.2 to 1352 mg/L and electrical conductivity from 90.2 to 1454.5 µS/cm. Five hydrochemical facies were found, with Mg-HCO3 (17.5%) and Ca-HCO3 (72.5%) as dominant. The groundwater chemistry is mainly controlled by carbonate dissolution and water–rock interaction. The high mineralization localized may indicate possible interaction with Triassic formations. PCA explains 64.56% of the total variance and indicates a mineralization gradient from water–rock interaction related processes. The WQI indicates that 82.5% of the samples are of excellent to good quality for human consumption, whereas the IWQI indicates high to severe restrictions for irrigation in 90% of the samples.
