ABSTRACT
Commissioning to operate in 1958 the dam on the Odra river in Brzeg Dolny and prolonged build another stage in Malczyce resulted in a change of water conditions in the adjacent valley. Below the Brzeg Dolny the bottom of the Odra river is a strong erosion local and linear. This results in a systematic lowering of water levels in the river and the depth of the groundwater in adjacent areas. The paper presents a methodology for the study of variation in groundwater levels using a gradient vector field. Analyses were carried out for data from two hydrological years – 1976 and 2012. Gradient, specifying the intensity (decrease) in the groundwater level was set in the fields of reference adopted, developed in accordance with the system „Temkart” size of 500 × 500 m. Gradient values obtained were the basis for the analysis of the size and direction of changes in water level (graphical presentation of the vectors ), which are used to determine the rate of changes in groundwater levels. The results of the analysis in the given period, using the proposed methodology, indicate distinct changes in the level of groundwater in the study area.
