ABSTRACT
One of the aims of the European Commission (EC) activities is to introduce uniform rules for the environmental performance assessment based on the life cycle assessment method (LCA), which can be widely used e.g. in eco-labeling, assessment of goods, services, technology, etc.
Therefore, from 1 November 2013 the European Commission implemented a pilot phase of the project on developing common methods for measuring the environmental performance of the product and organisation, aims to develop guidance documents in this field. The pilot phase includes development of the Category Rules relating to the calculation, verification and communication for environmental footprint of the 25 categories of products and two organizations. Therefore, the article presents the principle of environmental performance based on life cycle assessment in relation to the objectives of the proposed methodology of environmental footprint.
